A good possibility. And happy to be corrected in my analysis. My only other point is that this wreath pattern (according to the book) is unique to this maker. Maybe I have misidentified the wreath pattern? But it is different for sure.

Thanks guys. And thanks for the scan from the book, Michael.

Looking at the badge under a magnifying glass, I can't see any obvious borders/lips/guides, nor any additional solder that would indicate a repair - in fact there is very minimal solder to begin with. My guess is that the hinge is "original" to the piece, unlike the catch.

So that leads to the question of whether this is a fake of Unknown maker #10, 1.27.2, or a legit, unknown/not in the book variant of same (?), or from another maker. The dealer seems reputable - I have another piece from him that I will post in IAB - assuming that is OK. Thanks.

I may be wrong on the ID of the maker. But as said, this wreath is unique. Plus I'm working off a book that is 10 years old.

If this is unknown maker 10. My gut says, the hinge and catch broke at some point. The catch was lost but not the pin. Thus the rear was ground a bit to flatten surface, the hinge reattached, and a new catch added. But all just speculation. I would love to have it in hand.

After going around and around with this, and seeing other pics and commentary on other sites - I am going with this: it is an original piece with repaired hardware (that is also period and likely a part of the original piece from the get go). Whether the repair itself is period or not is another question, and one I need not concern myself with. Thanks to all for the input!

I see the original "4 rivet" type badge with original hardware. Hardware possibly repaired. Need more good photo.

    The same badges.

Agreed, that is the same maker we are discussing.

Correct, but this is not 4 rivet hardware nor semi hollow reverse of the 1.27.1. And the next variant (1.27.3) has a small dish back.

But very interesting. The catch (square wire) is the same as the 1.27.3 (I missed that). So possibly a transition of the catch used on this 1.27.2 (i.e. all original hardware) that was reattached.

    Just my thoughts.

On GCA, the 1.27.3 shows the same hardware as the one originally posted, with no border for the hinge, round catch plate and flat wire catch. It does show a central small dish on the reverse but this one could be a transitional between these variants.

The catch does appear to be reattached but I still believe the hinge is originally attached.
