Hello HOW

As Ned and Ralph have stated, the hinge is attached first and then the center cut is made for the badge pin.

It is during this milling process that the head of the Adler is notched as well.

The reason you have variations in the cut; this process was done by hand.

I have five NS Junckers and they all vary from a deep, prevalent cut to one that's hardly noticeable.
