Re: Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber- "Egghead"

Hi Ralph,
Nice Infanterie Sturmabzeichen! You'll be looking for the very desirable hollow type to go with it now I bet!
It's as you say the unknown maker called the 'Egg head' by collectors due to the eagle's head resembling an ovoid shape when seen from the reverse especially.
I'm not too up on Infanterie Sturmabzeichen's, so i'd imagine Fischer may have more details on this type, I heard somewhere recently it may possibly be linked to the maker Brehmer, so far not known to have produced Infanterie Sturmabzeichen's, but I don't know the thinking behind this, and as far as I know it still remains as by an unknown maker.

Thanks for the info Ned!
We will see about the hollow version. Only if one shows up for the right price and my timing is right
Ralph.

Re: Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber- "Egghead"
Hi Ralph
Great looking "Egghead" you have added; an underrated Infanterie Sturmabzeichen IMO that has a great overall design.
Ned explained perfectly the reason this variant received it's very unflattering nickname.
When viewing the head profile of the Adler, the shape is reminiscent of an egg.
Also mentioned is the possibility that Brehmer produced these examples. There are several attributes that are similar (hardware set up, frosted type finish, eagle design) to the GB marked Brehmer GAB's. These similarities show us a possible connection but it is not enough to declare the Egghead mystery solved.
In regards the Egghead hollow...this variant has a hinge base in a teardrop shape and not seen on any other Infanterie Sturmabzeichen including the Egghead solid.
Nice addition Ralph, congrats!
Best Regards, fischer
