    Hello

This one is a worn original attributed to the firm of Steinhauer & Luck and is considered a late war variant. These are not considered rare when compared to other IAB variants. Like the JFS bronze examples, this badge is found more often in the unworn form than in a worn condition.

Fischer's spot on. Here's a bronze with a slightly different hardware set up. Stewy

The book 'The Infantry Assault Badges' by Sascha Weber is an excellent reference for anyone wishing to specialise in these badges. It's got around 1000 photo's in 250 pages and goes into immense detail.

But, as with specialist books of this type it is not cheap at nearly £70. Although that could be money well spent if it helps you to not get bit! Amazon stock it.

    Regards, Ned.

As stated, the only IAB book available is the Weber book and is nice for what it is. Unfortunately, this work is missing half of the known examples. My suggested method would be to start by searching the forum for IAB's and create my own database of known originals. This method is helpful, especially when using the pics for purchase comparisons.

This works good and it's what I use....At least until a more complete IAB reference work is produced.

Good advice from Fischer, this the best way. Books are very useful for reference but they can go out of date. What might be written today could be out of date tomorrow or next year. Don't get me wrong, buy books and study them, all the information contained within them is useful in some way but keeping up to date on the forum(s) is the best reference tool you can access.
