thanks jerry for the swift reply, English terms ok by me, I live in Yorkshire , could you explain KVK,
    all the best,john.
No worries John, KVK is as Adrian said and in English is a war merit cross.

And the tropenhelm insignia is a one looker original and would be found on either Heer or Luftwaffe issued examples.
    Regards,

    Jerry

    Whatever its just an opinion.

here is the makers number, best I can get it with my camera !Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse.

also forgot to add (cant get it to show up on pics) it has what I assume may be a name scratched on the back : Paek Busch.
would this badge have been bronze in colour at one time ? there seems to be traces of it on parts of the front.

This may be a silly question , so please excuse my ignorance but i am not familiar with german militaria, the KvK first class which i posted at the beginning of this thread appears to have a name scratched on to the back : Paek Busch, I assume there were many thousands of these awarded but just wondered if there was any lists or files of recipients available to try to trace, thanks for any help. John.

Unfortunately not John. An entry would be made in the Soldbuch but there were no official lists of recipients kept by the authorities.
You would be extremely lucky to find out much more about this person and if you do, it's worth sticking a line on the lottery this weekend........

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
