The ribbon belongs to the Hindenburg Cross-a medal for having served in WWI. The medal here- a War Merit Cross with Swords would have a ribbon with outer edges in thin red with thin white stripes next and a wide black center single stripe.

Good zinc cross but with little finish remaining unfortunately. Can you post any pics of the ribbon in natural light please just to make sure it's ok?

I was just thinking the same thing as I was going through others pictures of the KVK. I was wondering if its because it was worn or does the finish sort of fade away with time...its been probably over 60 years.Here is another shot this is with as much natural light as i could find...
