Hello Adrian, Thanks for the comment. I have to agree, these are such attractive awards of very high quality manufacture. They can be researched so that you know to whom they were issued what act for and if an officer often a photo of the recipient can also be obtained.
And they can be purchased for about half the price of an unattributable EK2. I'm just surprised they're not more expensive.

I agree Robin. If they were German I think they would rate very highly indeed.
Cheers, Ade.

Well I received the research back thanks to Auke. We were both surprised to discover that this was a long service award. I had no idea that they were given with such an early serial number. Still I will let the research do the talking, although it is nice to see he also received the Order of Lenin.

Hi Robin, this is really interesting. Your Officer served at the same school as Aleksei Danilovich Tretyak, who's story I have featured here.
New addition to my collection : Order of the Red Star 659503
They even lived at the same address! They must have been Comrades.
Red Stars began to be issued for 15 years Long service in this serial number range in 1944: roughly numbers 848,000 to 1,000,000. So yours is early.
Cheers, Ade.

What a coincidence! According to Google 1 Lomonosov Street (Lomonosov iela 1) is the address of the Academy, nowadays called Riga Aviation University.
