At 3:00am on 10.6.43 in a kolkhoznik’s (hut?) near the village of Staraya Sloboda (Gzhats Region, Smolensk Oblast) Comrade Sorokosabel and a group of soldiers forced two German paratroopers to surrender who had just landed with their parachutes. While taking them prisoner, the two attempted armed resistance. Comrade Sorokosabel and Guards Senior Lieutenant Loktionov (?) rushed into the (hut?), disarmed the paratroopers, and led them to the regimental area.

As was explained to me, a "Blocking Detachment" was, "a unit in the early days of the war that set up behind the main friendly unit to stop deserters and panic-stricken soldiers fleeing to the rear. Their purpose was to be more scary than the enemy and thus 'encourage' their fellows to remain and fight..."

Hi Bill, that makes it even better. What a cracker!
