Participating in combat operations during the fighting with the German occupiers on the Voronezh and Southwestern Front he proved himself to be a dedicated son of our motherland and the Party of Lenin and Stalin.

As Auke pointed out to me, it is a pity more of his activities in the NKVD are not documented in his service record, and I suspect further, for very good reason. It is also noteworthy that the rough translation of the acronym SMERSH is literally "death to spies".
