The pin hinge does not look correct for an Agmuk. Every one I can remember seeing has had a round shouldered hinge, rather than this stepped one.

    I agree with William.

And the clasp is looking to be a cast. Not a clasp that i would add to my collection.I know this clasp, but i don`t remember for sure where i saw it?

Hi Adrian, just my opinion but from the reverse the swastika looks to be very untidy like a cast and not pressed metal. The catch setting also looks a little un-defind to me to.Just my thoughts, Leon.

This is one of the many variant fakes made by Carsten Staegmeier in recent years, he seems to bring a new one out every few months, and most are loosely based on the A.G.M.u.K 1.1.1. type indented crimp. Looking at the obverse, there are several clues such as the soft rendition of the badge plus there are differences in the general design from a genuine one, the eagle being a case in point.

Looking at the reverse, it's striking that the backplate is missing. Rarely will you find an A.G.M.u.K close combat clasp that has lost it's backplate as they were fitted tightly and effectively into the badge. Fakers have great difficulty in copying this without leaving obvious, glaring errors in size, shape etc. so they often choose to leave them out, but that is an even bigger red flag if you know your Gablonz badges.

Finally, the absolute killer is, as already mentioned, the flat block hinge used on this badge. A.G.M.u.K never used the type on any of their close combat clasp's, so unless it had been repaired at sometime, which it patently has not, it's a 100% fake.

Below is a pic of the obverse of the fake Staegmeier close combat clasp for comparison with that above.

    Regards, Ned.
