Compare to this original NSDAP badge to see the difference in quality of the enamel etc..

cool i can see big difference in them now thanks i have learned here is all party type badges with enamel have the same texture as your pic?? is that something to look for? in trying to look for the good in the bad? as i was wondering how to spot faked badges like these thanks!

p.s how much would i pay for a party badge like and whare would the best to look yours ade mate?

Wartime German enamel was very good and all will have a nice translucent quality to them.

However, by late war some enamel badges were dropped and they went to painted badges as a cheaper and quicker alternative. The base material metal was also changed to zinc.

Here is a late NSDAP badge from my collection to illustrate the point.

You also bring up the issue faced by the new (or indeed long time collector) of "What to do with a fake?". The main thing here is to be honorable and not pass this on to the unwary as original. You now know that horrible sinking feeling you get when you first find out that something in your collection is bad:

1 If it was bought as original try and get a refund from the seller.

2 Hide it away in a drawer and keep it as a reminder to do your homework before parting with cash.

3 Sell it openly as a copy.

4 Give it to a new collector to learn from. ( I did this with many fakes I had)

5 Or a drastic one: smash it to bits with a hammer so it never gets sold as real again!

nice badge mate ive seen the painted ones about these prob be faked aswell? iam going to keep it for checking against legit ones i get! iam just glad now i have the help of you on here! any future badges iam going to buy i will show you?! as i do like these badges and would love to collect them esp the ss enamel pin with the deathead on and the one with the ss bolts on it do you ever see these two original ss type pins about?
