Default Ground dug pre RZM NSDAP party pin

I yesterday received this party pin, ground dug from Stalingrad and I'd like some information if possible. It's a non RZM marked item so that makes it early (obviously pre-1943) given it went into the ground before January '43.

I can't make out the lettering on the pin plate. 'GESCHUTZ'? and the other side is even worse, I think it might be something like "GES??ZLICH'? Can anyone tell me what the correct markings should be and what they signify, if anything?

    Hi Glenn

As you say it looks like a nice early badge.

Geschutz means artillery, military unit responsible for operating large arms and missiles, gun; cannon, large gun

Not sure what the first word is

Nothing to do with a Geschütz (gun). It says "GESETZLICH GESCHÜTZT", which is what the abbreviated version "GES. GESCH." stands for as well. It literally translates as "protected by law" and means that a product is registered or patented.
