Article about: Nice shots. Notice how the S's are fat, skinny, and different from each other, The P in DAP is mishaped (bunched at the top), and the C is almost closed, and the N's appear to have a bent ar

Default NSDAP badge, no RZM or maker

I've been offered this NSDAP badge by one of my Stalingrad digger contacts, ground dug of course.
As i'm not the most trusting of souls i'm always on the lookout for this guy to try to slip in some rusty fake relic amongst the rusty genuine relics so I figured I should run this one past the forum.

The hardware looks correct but there is no maker mark that I can see, is this common at all? There is some writing around the pin retainer part of which looks like 'GESCHUTZ'? I think it's probably genuine but I'd like to be sure. For the diggers claim to be genuine the date of manufacture must of course be pre 1943.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Thanks Nick, I figured it was genuine but as always I like a little 'push' before committing.

Mind you I didn't need a push with the Heer 25yr service cross i bought last night...but I had had a drink or 2 at that stage.

It is interesting in that it has 'Gesetzlische Geschutz'
on both the pin bracket as well as the main body.

    Very nice ground dug badge.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.

    Thought so too, Steve.

I learned that the pin plate was sold to numerous companies and regardless of the badge stamping, the pin plates were uniform for many manufacturers. There are several rarer badges that were also flat, hence my question. I was looking through old threads and saw "February" and just replied. Eyes getting old!! Let me know when you tire of your Golden variety

    Old threads never die!

And yes it is flat. Any idea on possible year of manufacture?

It'll be difficult to narrow it down to an exact year but prior to 1935 RZM institution, so most likely 1920's but no later than 1932-3. The fact that it's flat makes it a very nice variant. I hope you still have it. Any chance of a couple straight-on shots of the front and back?
