Default DAF Prototype Buckle with Tag and Wax Seal for review...

Hi all. I've actually had this in my collection for quite a while, thought it was time to post it here for some feedback. I don't really collect prototypes, this just happened to be in a collection of buckles I paid handsomely for about a year ago. I know these are quite rare (prototype buckles in general), but does the tag increase it's value? On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the rarest), what is your opinion of this one?

Dzyner, that is an absolutely outstanding buckle, I would kill my own mother to own that bad boy. In all seriousness a very rare piece of TR buckle history really a mint DAF buckle made by Overhoff, it is a prototype buckle and has the original what I believe to a advertising tag on it. At the end of the day mate a one off, never seen one in all my years of collecting. If this was SS it would be worth 1000's ( or what ever a big collector would pay for it?) Being DAF and not a teeth arm unit they seem not to be so desirable personally these along with RAD and Police are amongst my most favourite buckles. Many thanks for showing this rare and super buckle

Thanks for the great feedback Ben I really appreciate it. Question for you... what about this buckle do you think is a prototype; is it a prototype for the clasp catch design or the entire buckle design?

A very interesting buckle, thanks for showing it. I think the DAF buckle was introduced in late 1935. This might have been an early test design or something like that. The catch could be called a prototype, I haven't seen one before. I can't remember seeing a DAF buckle with a tab.

Ben is correct that this could bring some big money. I remember Marc V was asking a 1000 euros for his pebbled finished variants a few years ago. This might be rarer than those. A fellow collector here in Colorado sold a Bakelite Heer prototype for $5000.
