    These are usually done by an individual soldier , from a multiple of captured or killed enemy combatants . Some were made as post war souvenir items after WWI but yours being WWII this wasn't as popular as in WWI so I believe yours to original . I might suggest you use a soft dry brush on the insignia to clean up the recesses and do not use any metal cleaners simply a brushing . Very nice belt .

    They are hav insignia as you explained above. Thanks so much for your helpful info. I am going to keep it but can now give the family more info
