Edit: Failure to read post correctly.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.
Yes that's right. In order of their promotion dates:
- Hermann Göring - 4 February 1938
- Albert Kesselring - 19 July 1940
- Erhard Milch - 19 July 1940
- Hugo Sperrle - 19 July 1940
- Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen - 16 February 1943
- Robert Ritter von Greim - 25 April 1945
However, the late-comer von Greim didn't get a Marshal's Baton when he was promoted. (Of course, he was dead a month later anyway.)
These are amazing "0ne off" items for sure and so unique theyt should all be in museums for all to see. In any case they are surely beyond the reach of the "ordinary" collector.
I recall that sometime around 1994 I went to a Waffenborse in Germany where a collection of around 20 of these from all arms was on display (definately not for sale!) and it still gives me nightmares!!!

Mark
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
