Gefreiter Chevron help

I recently dug this one out of the bottom drawer. I haven't been able to find a similar one and was hoping you lads could some light on it. The gold on green backing seems unusual to me... unfortunately there is modest tracking and a couple of pinholes courtesy of previous owner. many thanks.
