German officer's leather gloves

I got these for a good deal.They should be grey but they've been polished with black.does this affect the value?

Do you think I can get the black polish off of these? Is that a good idea, and if so, what would be a good method? Thanks for any feedback in advance.

Hi Dean, rubbing alcohol will remove the black polish. It would be best to remove this as it will affect the value.

okay, I tried the alcohol on part of it and it seems to be coming off , exposing the grey base, it does take a lot of elbow grease though. I'll post pics when I'm completely done(it will take a while).
