Heer Officer rank pip styles?

Gday Gents,
I was wondering how many different styles of Heer officer rank pips were manufactured during the WW2 period?
I'm looking at 4 styles of pips in my collection of WW2 Heer officer shoulderboards.The size and basic design appear to be quite varied.



Some of these styles may be repo's/fakes I'm not 100% sure.

There are indeed a lot of variations of pips (and just about everything else) in German collecting.

That's why I find it so interesting.

I used to collect other badges but found that they were so "samey" that I could not see any point in continuing.

Would mismatched styles be fitted to the same board or did dress regulations forbid this practice?

So i could assume that NCO pips are as varied in styles as officer pips as they would come out of the same factories?

"Yes" both NCO and officer pips are varied and their style changed over time from bright aluminium or gold coloured pips to late war zinc pips which had a silver/gilt finish applied but as all these things were worn in different climates their finish was prone to weathering which wore off or changed over time.

Also, whilst matching pips would have been preferred in parade or in peacetime such practices could not always be followed in wartime or in the frontline.

When you are being shot at, you tend not to care if your pips match, but you would still like to display your correct rank, as this was something that had to be earned and was important for the general cohesion of your unit.
