The NVA did not wear rank insignia like this.

ade just re read your post the NVA did wear the cheverons but not all and in fact very few did (barracks police, air and land defence and a few others)
however these were more of sloped v see attachment (aslos bear in mind the backing was different colours depending on the organistaion) the one shown is for the defence forces
Hi Tom, actually that is a Long Service chevron, not a rank insignia.
