Thanks yea the tunic already had medal loops when I got it so I added the most likely medal grouping that an infantry soldier would have had I am thinking of getting a replacement eagle for the chest as I purchased this is in Germany and therefore was removed ;-(

Hi Paul,

This type of tunic tends to be known as a 'geschonte' tunic (I cannot put the umlaut over the 'o' unfortunately), which literally means something along the lines of 'beautiful', but 'dress tunic' would be a better translation. The tunic appears to be a Reichsheer/Reichswehr tunic, from the early 1930s, which was modernised in 1933/1934 with the addition of a breast eagle. You see this a lot in studio photos from 1934-1935, when guys were still wearing uniform items from before the advent of the Wehrmacht. The toned silver tresse is fantastic, and other than the removal of the eagle, it looks like the tunic has not been mmessed with. It is a really nice one, and I hope you find a nice early pattern eagle for it.

The literal translation is "beautified". It could also be translated as "embellished" or "decorated". In any case, a great tunic.
