Luftwaffe flight boots

I have a pair of matching Luftwaffe flight boots manufactured by Hoffmann in 1943. The are a bit different from others I have and have seen photos of in that they lack the strap across the top of the foot. After close inspection I can't find ANY evidence that it was ever there at all. Can someone shed some light on this please?

nice boots but no idea why some had straps some did not.

Thanks. As far as I can tell they ARE authentic and have matching numbers on the tags. This really has me stumped. I've never seen any like this before.
