Here is a 'Grade 1' on a Luftwaffe Obergefreiter tunic I have (tunic is unit stamped to LG 1), and was a direct veteran acquisition,
and the lanyard was the original one that came with the tunic...

A couple of closer shots of the grade 5 lanyard....
I understand that the Marksman Lanyards were only awarded to NCO's and lower ranked personnel in the Luftwaffe. Does anyone know if a recently promoted NCO, who now holds an Officer's rank, would be permitted to wear the lanyard he was awarded prior to his promotion?
No, officer's were not permitted to wear the Marksman's lanyard with their uniforms....
Here some information (in German) about the marksman lanyards
for the German airforce.
First shown the text from the Luftwaffe dress-regulation from April 1, 1937:
Second shown the text from "Hettler" 1939/1940:
The lanyards are only included with the colored plates for the airforce for NCO's
and enlisted ranks.
Further shown photographs from my book "Aiguillettes of the Third Reich":
(what is shown with the photo at right is a part for the navy lanyard)
Great info Wim, and fantastic photo of the GG Uffz wearing the basic grade.....
