Maybe this could be worn under the one piece flying suit for extra warmth as the one piece flying suit is very thin and the zips and holes on this look to line up with the same on the flying suit

Very nice, Timothy! It's in fine shape as well. Could the "2" stamp refer to the size? You mentioned it's a medium, so maybe "1" is small, "2" is medium and "3" is large? Hmm.. Just a shot in the dark.
This a great item you don't see everyday. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Dean

Yes Dean I think this is the size marking. I think right under it is probably a RBN NO but you can't see it very good I took a magnifeying glass once and it read perfect for RBN no. Yes I think it is some type of under tunic possible insulating suit and Kradman is right. It would be perfect for high altitude insulation between the tunic and outside flying suit. I am going to try and show the flight helmet and goggles that came with it. timothy

Thanks for posting Tim. Never seen this type before.
I will check my book of Mick J. Prodger Luftwaffe vs RAF although i don't remember seen it in that book.
Looking for the photo albums of Leutnant Emil Freitag, 3. / G.R. 377

Thanks Don one of my collector friends said he thought he had seen a type in it like it I don't know if this is true I don't own the book. He was of the opinion that it was like a insulating vest would be under the tunic. It is definetly flight related. I once had a Luft under tunic quilted blue type vest that was marked to a flight unit. I think this is on the same line. timothy
