Luftwaffe Shoulder board????

Article about: Thanks for sharing, Ade. A very neat board. Would love to have one like this in my meagre collection. I have yet to get any Infantry boards. A lot of Artillery ones around, but not Infantry.

    Default Luftwaffe Shoulder board????

I was told that this is a WW2 period s/b for the Luftwaffe, but the rear construction looks more post war East German and the tresse used is also something I cannot place. Can someone please enlighten me? Thank you.

Just as an extra, the tress is not the usual silver as used on the WW2 items as well as post war East German types. It is grey in colour. The pattern also does not correspond to the type used by either of the two above. It is similar to the WW2 type used on Heer insignia and not what would have been used on Luftwaffe insignia. Help, please.

This is just a late model, WW2 era construction. It saved material. It's not that common to encounter and this is the first Luftwaffe board I've seen in this configuration.

The first time I saw it was in Germany. A friend's father had been in GD and still had his boards. They had this type of slip-on.

I've had a few pairs since.

Thank you for the info, but what about the tresse being gray instead of silver?

    Probably exactly the same reason!

Hi Tom, the tresse is Heer style and is the mid to late war "subduded" type. This was less obvious at a distance than the earlier silver tresse. I really like this style.

Not uncommon to find Heer pattern tresse on Luftwaffe straps and vice versa.

    Cheers, Ade.

Wow, thank you very much Ade. This is the first time I hear that there was a subdued type. Good to know. Not mentioned in any of the books I have been reading, or I missed it.

Hi Tom, I don't know the official designation of this type of tresse.

Here is a similar one (Heer) from my collection.

    Cheers, Ade.

Nice one Ade. What would the red cord across the bottom be for?

Some kind of semi official Kompanie designation. It is sewn on underneath.

I have had this strap a good 33 years now. It is a very large size, and was most likely removed from a Greatcoat.

    Cheers, Ade.
