Hi so I was looking at this M42 overcoat and I noticed it had a black hood on it. Were these commonplace for m42's, or was this just a variant? I've found pictures of german POWs in the ardennes with m42 overcoats with what appears to be a hood or toque. Any feedback is appreciated!

Here's another photo of german POWs from the battle of the bulge, I'm assuming they're wearing toques. However I can't find any pictures of information on m42's with hoods that explain it's significance. Hoping you guys know a bit on this topic.

The hood was introduced after experience of the Russian winter.

There is a photo of the greatcoat with hood in the book "The Black Angels".

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Janko, not all had hoods fitted to them. Note the example which starts this thread is also fully lined.

    Cheers, Ade.
