Can you please tell me if this is a period piece or post war fake/reproduction?
Only have front view as last owner fixed it to the blue card. Thank you.

Hi Tom, this is not going to be most use, as KM is not really my thing, but these are not really reproduced. Collector appeal is fairly limited as they are not covered with eagles and swastikas and the biggest problem is, as you have already recognised, post war Bundesmarine insignia being passed off as wartime.

Thanks Ade, but is there any way to determine via construction methods or material used? Unless one considers that they probably continued using the same methods & materials after the war too!!
KM collecting is a bl**dy nightmare.

Will wait until I have one in hand and then will continue from there.

The form of the anchor is different on post war bundesmarine patches. I have just got off the plane from california, but I will try and find some examples to show what I mean, asap.

Hi Tom, the two you have posted are both good WWII examples, IMO. Post war types are much smaller and the anchor-if they have one- is very different in shape. I cant post pics of the postwar types yet, as my camera batteries are recharching, but they are very different to those you posted.
