If you are into poorman's options, here's option 3 for straps. There are also repro tropical straps like the ones below I used as temporary fillers.

Nick. Thanks for the info.
Just please remember to use quality work when restoring any insignia. I have gymnasterka i waited some time until i were offered a fitting worn eagle that would fit perfectly on the shadow.
I dont mean keeping the restoring hidden/secret in any way, i just mean restore it so no annoying details will bother you non-stop later like toothache.
Great advice!! Thanks.
Hi Obal
Well you are "almost there". But you mixed EM collar tabs with officer boards. Should be one or the other. Since your collar tabs appear original to the tunic...maybe put the old EM boards you had from your OP back on ? The eagle looks pretty good by the way
Just a suggestion.
David
Hello,
Sorry David, but i do not agree here.
What ? WHAAAAAAAAAAT ?
you removed the shoulderstraps loops and opened the seam in order to use sew-in shoulderboards....why ?
if there was a police for militaria affairs, man you would be the main target of their investigations...
Why not use removable Officers shoulderboards ?
or any woolen examples for EMs/NCOs ?
This is not a way to treat original items, i'm sorry to say
restoring a tunic with an original breast eagle is ok, it is in the interest of this tunic....but not what you've done
Thanks

Did not notice the strap bridles were removed. Thought the officer boards were slip-ons. Oh well....
Geeze I was getting right into this! what a downer!!
