The Tunic Of Generleutnant Bourquin

Alexander Bourquin was born 21 May, 1896 in Nassau, Jamaica to German immigrants. In August 1914, he returned to his motherland and enlisted in the army. Following the armistice, Bourquin stayed in the army, mainly serving as an instructor at the war college until he received combat commands in 1942. His final rank was General Leutnant. in 1943, he commanded at various times the 114th and 117th Jaeger Divisions. He also commanded for a short period of time the 11th Luftwaffe Field Division.
The tunic was made in Prague prewar when Bourquin was still a colonel. It was tailored shorter in the tails than in the front. I assume this was a tunic he wore when riding a horse. This uniform was brought back to the USA by a reporter from Stars and Stripes. As it reflects the rank of General Major, it was either captured before the promotion or was left in his home. Was he a big guy? The chest size looks fairly large?

Nice tunic Bob

A friend of mine got the hint that a vet died and there is
a tunic in the wardrobe and also a lot of pics. It turned out to be a generals tunic

There was a lot of more stuff, sadly the awards where missing ...
I am still begging him the last 2 years to sell me the tunic ... what else
can i do to get hold of it

The picture is decieving. Actually, it appears he was not tall in stature. However, he did have that middle aged full figure from too much wurst, bier und spaetzle!

Do you know the identity of the tunic's owner? If so, it would be fairly easy to find his service record and restore the proper decorations. Very seldom were uniforms found with the decorations attached. Good luck on your quest.

He is young and not yet married, so when it comes to build a house
and feed a family ... you know how the story ends

I can wait

In the meantime i look at the pics i have got from him. He did not tell me the name of the vet because he is afraid that i go to public. There are relatives still living in the town ... but i am sure i can manage

Hopefully the guy has no idea what he has. Wishful thinking. Both of these are awesome tunics. Have patience and maybe one day it will find it's way to you. At least ask him if you can add it to your display on "loan" from him.
