Re: Would like opinions on Kriegsmarine Tunic and Breeches...
All the stampings shown are size, maker or acceptance/issue stamps with nothing that would indicate where or by what unit they were used, other than its Kusten Artillery and was issued in 1942.

Re: Would like opinions on Kriegsmarine Tunic and Breeches...
Thanks Bond. I'm used to collecting Heer and Luftwaffe uniforms (this is my first KM)... how can you tell its Kusten Artillery? Is it the style, or a marking somewhere? Is it possible that the date of issue (42) can help pinpoint an approximate location of this soldier, or are there just too many possibilities?

Re: Would like opinions on Kriegsmarine Tunic and Breeches...
Hi.
The cut and colour of the tunic is particular to the KA, as is the yellow eagle on a green backing and the litzen with a yellow bar. Also, the buttons have plain edges, whilst KM examples have roped edges, including the green coloured tropical examples whilst the plain grey green shoulder boards are KA, thought most I have seen have the winged bomb emblem.
You already know the trousers are French made.

Thanks again Jerry! I assume your reference to the trousers means chances are good this soldier was stationed in France? I assume they didn't ship French made uniforms to other regions in Europe?

Re: Would like opinions on Kriegsmarine Tunic and Breeches...
I think large numbers of KA troops were stationed all along the Atlantic wall, but I'm not certain the trousers would mean he was stationed in France, but it might make it more likely he was IMO. I don't know how far a French made pair of trousers would travel! If you bought this outfit in France, that might also suggest it was used in France.

Re: Would like opinions on Kriegsmarine Tunic and Breeches...
Jerry, this uniform was purchased from the daughter of a deceased vet who brought this home after the war. There was also a Heer helmet, and two ammo pouches. Would a KA troop wear a Heer Helmet or a Kriegsmarine helmet? The helmet is named so there is a possibility the helmet goes with the uniform (as do the ammo pouches).
Here's a link to the helmet I'm speaking of... https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/steel...helmet-189481/

Vets brought back just about anything they could, US vets more so than the Brits could and it is likely that the helmet and uniform came from different people. Do you know where he served, IE D-Day Normandy area? or Holland?

Jerry, the vet was in the 275 infantry and served in North Africa, Sicily, Naples, Casino, Anzio, Rome, and south France. So ya... he could have picked these up anywhere
