1936-1939 RAD buckles
In my opinion, a super and grossly underestimated buckle.
Designed by the famous Egon Jantke and the buckle was planned for introduction in early 1936. At the 7th Party Congress however - "Reichsparteitag der Freiheit" (10th to 16th September 1935), members of the RAD there present wore the buckle and wherein, the FAD ceased to exist.
The field rather than private purchase or walking out buckles are overwhelmingly one piece die stamped aluminium, often finished with an "Old Silver" toning and were complete with a leather tongue.
Often a profusely marked buckle/leather tongue.
The buckle belonged to the organisation rather than the man and as such, on completion of service the buckle was handed back, only to be reissued to some other person. This is probably why we see so many "non issued " 1939 RAD buckles. Apparently manufactured and with a delivery taken, although with existing 1936, 1937 and 1938 stocks being used.

David

Re: 1936-1939 RAD buckles
David, I am with you on this one, the RAD is a very underestimated buckle, I love them, I think they have so much character. I love the Overhoff and Heubach buckle David, quite hard makers to find in RAD buckles, a wonderful thread to start in my eyes
