An original RAD enlisted buckle that appears to be made by Gustav Brehmer. Appears to be suffering from poor storage.

If it is aluminum, then that isn't rust. Couldn't you soak it in warm water to clean / remove substance (DNA?) and brush with a soft tooth brush? Bob

Aluminum will show signs of rust if left in contact with something made of carbon steel that is rusting.
