That thought had crossed my mind as well... They (Model plane decals) usually broke in a piece or two on me in the water before even being applied as they were very thin and fragile...G

The decals are crumbly in the photos and are missing a considerable portion of the design work. They may possibly have been shellacked at one time-yet another old time method.

Yes, used hot water and fine sandpaper, and the decals stayed on, as you see them.

This devil decal is most probably a nose art from a US plane. I remember seeing it somewhere.

Hi again, very bad paint job, or very good decal application. Great job cleaning this helmet up !!

Speaking of nose art....not to derail the thread, but I was just wondering-has anyone ever attempted to assemble in one place the thousands of nose art images on US WWII planes? Some of them were simply amazing art works by actual artists. Would be a fascinating project, if not...

There was a link posted here a while back with many nose art pictures. Hundred or so.

While I think it is nose art, it could also be depicting a squadron unit. Like those painted on A leather jackets.

As said, I know I've seen this somewhere.

Close....maybe it is just a biker decal. Looks a bit big for a model airplane decal
