Comparing the knife to several Puma's it is very similar in the guard and the crown but is unmarked. I know that Germany during WWII made Puma's but this definitely looks newer.

Its nothing that remotely resembles anything sanctified by the NSDAP or the SS and would be a post war put together. The scabbard is authentic !

The problem with items sourced from "veteran's homes" is not everything veterans acquired was actually brought back from Europe. Some may have been purchased at a gun show in the 1970's. As for this knife, it's not an issued type and quite likely a post war hunting knife, runes added later. The scabbard may well be authentic HJ.

Briefly: There was some Chaos in the very early TR era years. So laws were passed regarding symbols and daggers and youth knives etc., and as symbols of the NSDAP they were protected by law. But if you are unscrupulous and have an old junk service bayonet (and/or some parts) and want to make a profit all you have to do is add "SS" symbols, along with a good "vet" story. Something that has been going on for longer than I've been collecting the question is was it yesterday or 6 months - or 20 years ago?? Best Regards, Fred
