    Hey guys,
Im looking to purchase my first HJ dagger and just wanted to get your opinion on this piece before I commit.

The Dagger has a Motto, but cant see a makers mark.
I've read that all blades with a motto should have a makers mark. Is that correct?

    any advice is much appreciated

Hi, looks ok to me but wait for Mac66 to cast his expert eye

Not all Motto blades have makers mark.

Have a read of this :

    Hi Woolgar,
Thanks so much for your fast reply!

That's the article I read that indicated that a motto blade should have a makers mark.

    "BAD

RZM designation on the obverse, (normally found to reverse) riccasso
    Casting seams on the hilt
    Poorly fit grip plates
    New smelling leather
    Alloy non-magnetic scabbards
    Minty factory fresh
    Banged up poorly formed rivets
"Germany" anywhere on the knife or scabbard
    Motto with no makers name
Motto with RZM Blades dated 1939 and later
    Solid red on the diamonds"

Yes you are correct . I was reading 'There may or may not be an RZM designation on the blade.' Apologies.

The maker mark is on the opposite side of the motto, has it worn away do you think, as the Motto is very faded

Possibly. The opposite side of the blade has been personalised with "H.Hilger"
I'll email the dealer and ask. Could it be possible that the blade was etched post 1938 with the motto?
but if so it should have a RZM designation.
    I'm a little confused!

Ninelives, i,m pretty sure this hj knife was an RZM stamped blade with no makers stamp/logo with motto, maybe it was M7/51 For maker Anton Wingen Jr ?

motto looks ok but the blade has been heavily buffed & sharpened with a broken rear griplate & missing leather scabbard hanger, i would hold out for another complete better conditioned knife that you would be much happier in the long run.

If you're interested let me know and I'll give you the stores details
