I would imagine that is the logo of the manufacturer.
There is a list of makers in this thread. You may be able to match the initials.

The WaA243 is there? it should be Mundlos piece probably.
Just to confirm; this is definitely the maker's logo for Paul Jatow, Dodendorf (bez Magdeburg). The firm used this as their trademark for phenolic items until they were assigned the E4 MPD code. My thoughts only .....
