Ryan, What I seem to be seeing is a standard 1935 Wehrmacht issue bayonet by Alexander Coppel, that has been most likely reworked in the postwar period. With the late red plastic grips, and a latter(?) period scabbard with a Czech frog.

As to how it somehow became an “SS” bayonet I have no idea. I personally would not give it a second look as a waste of money at a fraction of that price. FP

PS: The "Collector's Guild" example is a fake, so I would not rely on that as proof, or an "uncle's" story. FP

This is what the scabbard should look like as my example.

Ryan, The wood grips are smooth and don’t have the diagonal lines - although wood was used as a filler for the Bakelite types. Also please permit me to make a clarification. The “Collector’s Guild” bayonet by itself looks OK as most likely an armory reworked 1941 dated Hörster. It’s the frog that has had the fake “SS” markings added to it. And a 1935 dated frog stud would have decorative horizontal lines instead of being smooth. Best Regards, FP

My apologies for the poor quality of the image which was taken much earlier for other purposes. I don't remember the date (or maker) of this example, but a 1935 dated bayonet would look something like this. Best Regards, FP

FP is right on this, certainly the first pictured bayonet was reworked on end of war or later, the S/173G has no connection to SS.best regards,Andy
