While I imagine that it might be argued to the contrary. My sense of the Waffenamted Double Circle/Z blued with no muzzle ring (date or serial number) S. 24(t) bayonets from the CZ factory at Bystrica (in the Slovakian region to the east) is that they are earlier, and probably circa 1941. With the earliest Waffenamted full muzzle ring types from both Brno and Bystrica. And CZ in 1940 making Slovakian marked conventional Vz. 24 bayonets, not to mention the other CZ contract items. With the 1943 dated 'dot' bayonets in my experience harder to find (because fewer were made, and production was shifted to the 1943 Romanian contract). Best Regards, Fred

Yes I forgot to comment on that last night those are a great occupation bayonet made by the Nazi's I need to pick up another one to replace one I had as they are going up in price and difficult to get as there ratio to the regular s84/98 is quite low and I think quite rare I have had some of the older hands tell me the 42 dated ones are harder to find so nice piece Jim. timothy
When the Germans occupied Czechoslovakia they acquired not only some compatible first class weapons. But also a first class manufacturer in the form of Československá Zbrojovka/Waffenwerke Brünn A.-G., (Werk Brünn and (Považská) Bystrica). And what you said is true IMO, with this type of bayonet harder to find than comparable S. 84/98 bayonets. But with a little work not impossible as they do turn up every once in a while. Hello,

the produced quantity of the S24(t) is of course much lower than the count of the S84/98... because there was only one firm who made the S24(t)

Yes... the z in doublecircled WaA marked S24(t)... blued and without muzzle ring were made 1941 until 1942.

Before there were made since 1939 sicnle circeld S24(t) for the Wehrmacht in old configuration with WaA 63 and 667 Marks

    Hello,
Because they are not dated, I tended to use the rifles with known dates to try and figure out what belongs where and when. With my first G. 33/40 carbine from Brno a “945" number code and a “WaA63” Waffenamt (an old Mauser/Oberndorf a/N marking through 1939). And Bystrica more of a puzzle because they seemed to be making the Vz. 24 (later the G. 24(t) - until Bystrica started producing the Kar. 98k for the rest of the war). But first using a WaA655 (primarily used by Mauser/Oberndorf a/N starting in 1940). And a “607” Waffenamt until sometime in 1941, when the “A80” Waffenamt was introduced - which is what is seen on the Bystrica no muzzle ring bayonets. With all of the scabbards coming from Brno.

A puzzle. Which was somewhat resolved later on when various examples of different items were examined from Germany’s Ally - Romania. Showing that the Germans permitted CZ to fulfill its standing order from Romania. (And put away somewhere I have more information for Romania and Slovakia). With the “bottom line” being I have not as yet seen good evidence that new production for Germany (the Wehrmacht) itself began before 1940, which IMO includes the bayonets.

Also suspecting that the first scabbard pictured may have originally been a part of the commercial contract that was diverted to fill the German order because of the ČSZ marking(?). Unfortunately I don’t have ready to go images for the Double Circle/Z marking, but here is another WaA63 Brno full muzzle ring example, and two views of the opposite side with the Eagle/607 Waffenamt from Bystrica.
    Best Regards, Fred

    Hello Jim,

It's the search for answers for just about everything that I collect (or have collected at some point) that I also find interesting - if you haven't guessed that by now . Which I'm sure you have - and are you the same Jim P. that I seem to recall from the now vanished MCF? PS: What I posted is just the short, short, version trying to keep the focus on blades. So some of the related details have been omitted because they don't (IMO) really affect the end result that much. And with many discussions other dedicated collectors like Sleepwalker have examples, and/or other kinds of input or documentation, that should be taken into serious consideration. Because the discussions are a learning tool for all of us, as we try to sort out the facts to see what makes the most sense where we don't have direct period evidence. Which is why I try to keep an open mind, and on occasion adjust my own thinking with a new perspective if that is where the evidence seems to fall in place.

    Best Regards, Fred
