Nice lower numbered piece of Coppel early production, unfortunally the plastic grips are replacements, should be wood there. It would be nice to see grips dissasembled.
Thanks for the fine words guys. Yes, maybe the grips were replaced at some time, but I have never seen plastic grips in this color before. (They are more light brown than other I have seen) Maybe this is an early type of plastic grips? Will show you what it looks like behind the grips some day, but must get me some disassembling tool first.
Regards Arvid
I like them all!
Some great bayo and matching scabbard combos here guys
Brad.
Nice bayo with nicer low number.

These are bakelite handles, not plastic.
Earlier bakelite handles was made from brown / blue bakelite.
During the 1943rd year, due to the disappearance of the material, for k98 bayonets begins to use red bakelite like these one.
My bent is - do not disassemble the bayonet.

Bakelit is well known product, but made in early of 20 century , the origin of plastic grips on S84/98 is phenolic resin with various addings, mainly with wood particals, so it should be named by origin name used by firms that it was there stamped on inner side. Could be Trolitan or other production names. Bakelit is here a generous name.
The basis of the bakelite is resin, while the most important stuf for the production of plastic is oil.
The widespread use of plastic, begins after WW2, by polyethylene invention.
