K98 bayonet
Hi all
Here's my K98 bayonet
its mismatched the blade is Mundlos 40' No 8391 WaA 243 double stamped on pommel, flash gard, cross gard and one to the release catch!!
the scabbard is 43 FNJ No 8465 WaA 8** on ball finial
Frog is marked Josef Lechner, Hamburg 39, 1940
thoughts please
A nice example of an 84/98 bayonet, even if mismatched. Always nice to have an original frog to complete the set. Is this your first 84/98 or just another one added to the collection?

picked this one up for a very reasonable price from a local Gun dealer!! he had a job lot come in !! not his usual thing!!! and I also bought several more!!! ( a Swiss STG 57, Swiss R33, a Vz 24, a Mk 5 Ghurka khukri... and even a 1907 Enfield British Wilkinson bayo resto project (see my other thread)!!!!

From the blueing and special ended flashguard i would say its a postwar refurbished, looks too dark the blueing on pommel and crosguard. br.Andy
PS ball finial should be WaA519

The ball finial could very well be a"5" and not an "8".... as you can see it is worn/miss-stamped... and the finish is very good so refinished is very real possibility!!!
would I be right in saying FNJ is A. Coppel maker!????
and blade Mundlos A.G. Magdeburg!???
43 fnj is Coppel GmbH and Mundlos is clear, You are correct by designation of makers.b.r.Andy
