Hi Roger, yes it is German and is for the Mauser K98k.

"COF" is the makers code for Carl Eickhorn, Solingen.

There should be a code number both on the bayonet and the scabbard. These should match. But often they got separated, so miss matched numbers are found. If buying a bayonet, always try and get one with matched numbers.

The leather frog does not look to be German.

    Cheers, Ade.

Here are my two bayonets, both have matching numbers. One has wood grips while the other has bakelite plastic grips.

The leather frog at the top is German issue, while the bottom one is Czech, sometimes used by the Germans.

    Cheers, Ade.

It is my pleasure to help!

If you look closely at the end of the scabbard you will find a tiny eagle waffenampt inspection mark. Inspection marks can also be found near the release button on the grip. You may also find a date code on the spine of the blade near the grip.

    Cheers, Ade.
