Another superb blade Rossi, can't get over the pristine condition of the blade, grips. Clearly marked, great item.

Another beauty from Rossi's collection. Herder was one of the middle of the pack producers of the K98 bayonets, not rare but produced much less than the big companies like E & F Horster, Eickhorn & WKC. And this is a great example, lovely tone and a frog that matches the fine condition. 1941 made, so still in the period when finishing standard was high.

And yet another nice example by Rossi. I should post my '44 bayonet. What a rough lump of metal it is compared to the early ones.

I think Rossi has a collection of blades in such condition that make most average collectors green with envy, undoubtedly they are of a condition that we should all look for but I'm sure for many (myself included) often have to settle for the combat abused.

I hate to be one of "those guys" but to me it looks like the bayonet was dis-assembled and heavily cleaned. There's hardly any bluing left on the hilt or scabbard and the grip screws are in backwards.

No problem sb98. Yes it has lost its bluing on bayonet fittings and scabbard. Pretty typical in my opinion of these battle used pieces. Screws are not in correct as you state (easy fix - below). Some bluing remains around scabbard throat and in other recess areas so not sure cleaned but loss of finish for sure. It is what it is and I am okay with the nuances of it even though I am a mint guy and a purist as well. Guess they can't always be perfect like the one below.

All is right in the world as I reversed the grip screws easily.

Understood, irrespective of the condition if the bayonet "speaks to you" then you have to try to acquire it if they are something that you are interested in. There could even be some "parts" bayonets that are completely collectible and a very worthy addition to a collection. Best Regards, Fred
