Very nice and very interesting. You have, not a "dagger" but a bayonet. It is a German Sg84/98 made by "W.u.K.", Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co. It is not Imperial but was made during the interwar period, the 1920s or 1930s.
The German Sg84/98 is one of the commonest bayonets available on the collectors market. It was the first knife bayonet adopted by any nation, inspiring all of the shorter bayonets that came into use during and after WW1 and was on issue to German troops from the time shortly before the Great War and became the standard issue bayonet for the entire German military in the 1930s, remaining the standard until 1945. Literally milions were made. But the thing that makes this one interesting is the Weimar Era regimental marking on the cross guard. I am having trouble reading it due to the angle, can you read it and type it out exactly as stamped?
I am much batter at Imperial regimentals than those of the Weimar era, but, IIRC, yours - 12./jr.13.144 - translates as "weapon number 144 of the 12th Company of Infantry Regiment 13".
Is there a date on the back of the blade ?
I have seen photos of these with 1927,28 and 29 dates.
Quite rare I think.
Good Richie, I forgot to ask.
The early Wuk like that one are very hard to comeby as stated they were made in the 20's for Weimar they were some of the first 84/98 made after WW1. Nice rare find. timothy
Just a side note George Wheeler Book Seitengewher talks quite a bit about these pre ww2 rare Wuk example.
