I recently bought a bayonet as it looked decent in the pic and the price was alright for a worn non-matching number bayonet.
I asked, if it was a matching number bayonet and was told it was not.
When I received the bayonet, it turned out to be more than decent; Scabbard was worn, but blade was in very good condition and had never been sharpened.
Even better, when I examined the bayonet, it turned out to have matching numbers. It was just turned in the scabbard so the makers code was on the same side as the bayonet number!

Bayonet must have been worn/handled some, as the scabbard is worn to the metal except where the baynet frog covered it. There is still a faint 'shadow' where the frog was positioned.
The blade on the other hand is in very good condition. It has never been sharpened and doesnt have any nicks or dents. A few sliding marks from where the bayonet has been drawn from the scabbard. Apart from that it looks new.
Handle also worn/handled but not abused, which one can pretty much say describes the overall condition of the bayonet very well.
