'E&F Horster'.........
'E&F Horster'.........
Regards,
Steve.
There is a listing for both makers Horster and Coppel,, using the "AWS" stamping,,, but because of the "balance scale logo", being used ,,it would be reserved for the Alexander Coppel firm. (see this link) #18 post https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/dagge...onet-191232-2/ . Scroll down a bit
It is true that the AWS logo existed for the 2 makers. This maker of this bayonet listed in the first post, is an Alcoso product,, or the stamping belonging to it. Larry
Coppel used a variety of commercial trademarks/logos for its products (including the AWS/Scales), for its identical to German Army/Wehrmacht bayonets that it made for non-Wehrmacht users of combat arms like the German Police. With the commercial “AWS” marking believed to represent Alcosco-Werke-Solingen. Whereas with the “asw” on Hörster bayonets, that is a military marking in the (classified secret or confidential at that time) “Liste der Fertigungskennzeichen” (Manufacturer’s Markings List). That was assigned to Hörster in November of 1940, presumably to confuse intelligence gathering by Allied forces with Coppel being assigned the military “fnj” letter code in June of 1941. Fred
