    Hi,

I got a new dagger for my collection, this time it's a 1st model Luftwaffe dagger.
...what are your thoughts about this one?

    Generally the condition is nice.
On one side of the grip the leather has a small tear - the scabbard also has 2-3 small tears in the leather.
The blade is very nice - 99,9% mint.
    There is no maker.

There is a major problem with the scabbard. Center mount looks too high and theres far too many eyes on the chain.

    quite concerning.

    Could I see clip plz

    Sorry to hear that.
Agree the center mount looks mounted a bit high on the scabbard - the small screws are missing, could this be the reason?
...looking at others - the distance of the center mount seems to vary slightly.

The number of eyes also seems to vary, some got 9 in the short and 14 in the long, other 6 short and 10 long, others 6 in the short and 8 in the long chain.
    ...what is right?

The number of links in the chain, I believe, will vary with the height of the Officer who was wearing it. A man who was, say, 6'5" would need a longer chain hanger or else he would look silly with it up high on his belt. In the event of it being made for a very tall man, the center link would also be needed to be moved higher to avoid a ridiculous wide spread pair of hanger chains when worn. I see nothing amiss with this piece. The blade, as said, is superb and the gilt anodizing is remarkably complete. A great looking 1st Model Luftwaffe.

Center mount is very high but looks all original and in very nice shape! If the "springy wire" is original to the grip it may point towards this being a F.W.Holler product.. Best, Kevin.
