Rust is reddish - not green.
Green patina is formed from more nobler metals such, as copper or solid-nickel.
Why was it created?
Due to the proximity of the leather in the handle to the metal part. (In the past, handle leather was absorbed moisture.)

Red rust:
You long took patina off, it will come again, and you will only lose one healthy part of the metal.
In addition, you will reduce the value of your dagger.
My advice - just hold the dagger in dry area.

Good stuff in this thread I love the dlv dagger, the unit marking is a nice find
Very very nice. Does the crossguard have the unit number stamped under it too? If it does, it is worth considerably more as they are rare. Shame its an SMF though.
Best matty
Do you mean because its the common maker??Shame its an SMF though.
Yes, The most common without a doubt for any of the earlier Luftwaffe edges.
