Earlier this week, Tuesday to be exact, saw the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first transport of prisoners to KZ-Außenlager Brünn, the furthest sub-camp from the Stammlager in Auschwitz. Consider that this camp lay well inside occupied Moravian territory and one begins to understand the scope of the Auschwitz camp system. Then consider this...the Auschwitz camp system had less than half the camps and external work details of some of the other major KLs, such as Groß-Rosen, Buchenwald, Neuengamme and Dachau. Through the later years of the Reich ('43-'45), hundreds of these camps were established, yet many go almost without mention today. Some only held a few tens of prisoners...yet others imprisoned well over 10,000 inmates.
