BBC Article - A Train in Winter
Fine article on the BBC news website today, regarding Caroline Moorehead's new book, "A Train In Winter". The book tells the story of a group of 230 French women, who by their own power, decided to resist the Nazi occupiers and create as much trouble as they could during the earlier years of the occupation. Eventually, they were bundled aboard four trucks and sent off to Birkenau during January 1943. Of the 49 who survived, only a few managed some semblance of a "normal" life afterwards, for obvious reasons. However, rather than tell a tale of hardship, suffering and brutality, the book focuses more on the ability to overcome anything, and sounds a very inspirational piece of work.
