    From what I understand the others in Poland situated further west were liberated some months in advance, its almost like this camp was somehow missed.

    Hi Matt,

    Actually, KL-Lublin-Majdanek was the first major camp liberated (in the summer of 1944)...some months before the Auschwitz camps, Groß-Rosen etc were liberated during the following winter.

    Indeed it was Matt...but the torture of those condemned to incarceration within the KZ system continued...for a very, very long time.

    Today marks the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Lublin. For health reasons, no official commemorative events will take place this year but museum representatives laid flowers and lit candles at the Mausoleum earlier this afternoon.

    Another year passes and another anniversary is marked. Today, July 22nd 2023 sees the 79th anniversary of the liberation of KL-Lublin. The night of 22nd-23rd July 1944 saw Red Army forces reach the camp and discover groups of prisoners who had been left behind during the evacuation marches that had left the camp.
